Kórnik Castle is a charming and easily accessible destination from Poznań. It is located about 25 km south of the city, and is one of the most popular attractions in the area. Kórnik Castle is a neo-Gothic building with medieval and Renaissance roots, restored in the 19th century. The castle is said to be haunted by a ghost, Teofila Działyńska, a former owner who wanders through the rooms in search of peace. An evocative story that adds mystery to the visit! Next to the castle, there is a beautiful botanical garden, one of the largest and oldest in Poland. It is perfect for a stroll after visiting the castle, especially in spring and summer, when different species of trees and plants are in bloom. The castle is open all year round, but the hours vary depending on the season. It is usually closed on Mondays.
Raczyński Palace in Rogalin is another must-see destination near Poznan, just 20 km away. This beautiful historic palace is surrounded by a magnificent park and offers a perfect combination of art, architecture and nature. It is a masterpiece of classical architecture. Inside you will find elegant rooms, furnished with period furniture and priceless works of art. One of the main attractions is the art gallery which houses famous paintings, especially Polish art, including those of Jan Matejko, Poland's most famous painter. The collection is one of the most prestigious in the country. A little gem is the library, full of old books and rare manuscripts, witnesses of the history of the noble Raczyński family. The palace is open to the public all year round, but the opening hours vary depending on the season and the day of the week.
When in Poznan it is worth taking the opportunity to visit Torun. It is a smaller but equally ancient and fascinating city, located just over two hours by car or train from Poznan. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is famous for being the birthplace of Nicolaus Copernicus and for its characteristic pierniki, gingerbread cookies. Its historic center, which has remained intact and spared the devastation of war, represents an invaluable architectural and urban treasure, making it one of the most beautiful in Europe. Among the things to see in Torun, a must is to admire the panorama of the city along the Vistula: whether you sail on the river, cross the bridge, or walk on the left bank, the view of Torun is unforgettable, so much so that it deserves the title of one of the Wonders of Poland. Its strategic position on the main Polish river has always influenced the development of the city, which in the Middle Ages, as a member of the Hanseatic League, was one of the main economic and cultural centers of the region.
The beautiful city of Wrocław is also worth a visit. It is easily reachable by train! The city is one of the most beautiful in Poland and offers a unique combination of history, art, and culture, famous for its characteristic bridges, canals and charming historic squares.
