Have you ever slept in a Castle? We were lucky enough to try this particular experience thanks to the Hotel Castel Rundegg in Merano, in the heart of South Tyrol.
Habt ihr jemals in einem Schloss geschlafen? Wir hatten das Glück, diese besondere Erfahrung dank des Hotels Castel Rundegg in Meran im Herzen von Südtirol zu versuchen.
Between the two of us, Marco is the real Trentino Boy and therefore accustomed to the beauty of the castles that dot the valleys of Trentino Alto Adige. Despite this, the wonder was so great when we crossed the gate of the castle: in front of us an imposing stately building with towers and typical white-red shutters, surrounded by a magnificent park. A perfect show! We do not hide you from being a little anxious ... in short, it certainly does not happen every day to be able to stay in a castle! Once through the front door we found ourselves catapulted into the past: furnishings and tapestries bring back to the ancient and fascinating times of ladies and knights, kings and queens.
It is David, the manager of the facility, who brings us back to reality. We were so fascinated by the interior of the castle that we hadn't even noticed his presence. He welcomes us with great courtesy and kindness, ready to let us discover the secrets of his hotel.
Marco ist aus Trentino und daher an die Schönheit der Burgen gewöhnt, die die Täler des Trentino Südtirol prägen. Trotzdem war das Wunder so groß, als wir das Tor des Schlosses überquerten: vor uns ein imposantes stattliches Gebäude mit Türmen und typischen weiß-roten Fensterläden, umgeben von einem herrlichen Park. Eine Show! Wir verbergen ihr nicht davor, ein wenig ängstlich zu sein ... kurz gesagt, es kommt sicherlich nicht jeden Tag vor, in einem Schloss bleiben zu können! Als wir durch die Haustür kamen, wurden wir in die Vergangenheit katapultiert: Möbel und Wandteppiche erinnern an die alten und faszinierenden Zeiten von Damen und Rittern, Königen und Königinnen.
Es ist David, der Manager der Einrichtung, der uns zurück in die Realität bringt. Das Innere des Schlosses hat uns so fasziniert, dass wir seine Anwesenheit nicht einmal bemerkt hatten. Er begrüßt uns mit großer Höflichkeit und Freundlichkeit und ist bereit, uns die Geheimnisse seines Hotels entdecken zu lassen.
We have already said it, the excitement was so great and we could not wait to see the room in which we will have spent our stay at the Rundegg. With immense joy we discover that David has reserved the suite in the tower (imagine Simone's face when he knew it). After a small but interesting historical presentation of the structure by David (think that the castle dates back to at least 1154, perhaps even before the birth of the residential nucleus of Merano), we go to the discovery of our room.
How do you reach a suite in a tower? Obviously through a spiral staircase, at the end of which a splendid and enormous room opens up in front of us, to say the least princely (parquet on the floor, luxurious velvet and brocade tapestry and lights that imitate the ancient candelabra ... a marvel!). The windows are typical of the towers, carved into the facade of the building: looking out, you are in front of the mountains of the Gruppo di Tessa. And what can we say about the bed? Simply that upon entering we felt a bit like the kings of the castle! To give an even more magical touch, a beautiful telescope ready at the window to let us admire the stars.
Wir haben es bereits gesagt, die Aufregung war so groß und wir konnten es kaum erwarten, das Zimmer zu sehen, in dem wir unseren Aufenthalt im Rundegg verbracht haben. Mit großer Freude entdecken wir, dass David die Suite im Turm reserviert hat (stellt euch Simones Gesicht vor, als er es wusste). Nach einer kleinen, aber interessanten historischen Darstellung des Bauwerks durch David (das Schloss mindestens 1154 stammt, vielleicht sogar vor der Geburt des Wohnkerns von Meran), gehen wir zur Entdeckung unseres Zimmers.
Wie erreicht man eine Suite in einem Turm? Offensichtlich durch eine Wendeltreppe, an deren Ende sich ein prächtiger und riesiger Raum vor uns öffnet, um es gelinde auszudrücken (Parkett auf dem Boden, luxuriöser Wandteppich aus Samt und Brokat und Lichter, die die alten Kandelaber imitieren ... ein Wunder!). Die Fenster sind typisch für die Türme, die in die Fassade des Gebäudes geschnitzt sind: Wenn Sie nach draußen schauen, befinden Sie sich vor den Bergen der Gruppo di Tessa. Und was können wir über das Bett sagen? Einfach, dass wir uns beim Betreten ein bisschen wie die Könige der Burg fühlten! Um eine noch magischere Note zu verleihen, steht ein wunderschönes Teleskop am Fenster bereit, damit wir die Sterne bewundern können.
David manages Castel Rundegg with her husband Daniele. Together they manage to make the customer perceive their love and passion for this magical place. Maybe that's why we immediately felt comfortable; having the awareness that being a homosexual couple here is normal, allows you to be yourself without fear of any prejudice (believe us, unfortunately it still happens often to feel observed or uncomfortable). In our opinion, the Gay-Friendly aspect is fundamental for choosing a hotel.
David verwaltet Castel Rundegg mit ihrem Ehemann Daniele. Gemeinsam schaffen sie es, dass der Kunde seine Liebe und Leidenschaft für diesen magischen Ort wahrnimmt. Vielleicht haben wir uns deshalb sofort wohl gefühlt; Wenn Sie sich bewusst sind, dass es normal ist, hier ein homosexuelles Paar zu sein, können Sie sich selbst sein, ohne Angst vor Vorurteilen zu haben (glauben Sie uns, leider fühlt es sich immer noch oft beobachtet oder unangenehm an). To head to the hotel restaurant, let's explore the structure a bit. Every corner deserves a photo. We sit at the table of the elegant restaurant ready to enjoy a fantastic gourmet dinner. From appetizer to dessert it was a continuous explosion of beauty and taste. Those who know us now know it, in these cases we let the images speak for us.
Um zum Hotelrestaurant zu gelangen, explorieren wir die Struktur. Jede Ecke verdient ein Foto. Wir sitzen am Tisch des eleganten Restaurants und genießen ein fantastisches Gourmet-Abendessen. Von der Vorspeise bis zum Dessert war es eine kontinuierliche Explosion von Schönheit und Geschmack. Diejenigen, die uns jetzt kennen, wissen es, in diesen Fällen lassen wir die Bilder für uns sprechen.
The time has come for our first night in Castel Rundegg. Outside there is a storm with lightning, thunder and lightning ... the perfect weather conditions for a romantic night protected by the walls of a castle, just like in a movie.
Es ist Zeit für unsere erste Nacht in Castel Rundegg. Draußen gibt es einen Sturm mit Blitz, Donner und Blitz ... die perfekten Wetterbedingungen für eine romantische Nacht, geschützt durch die Mauern eines Schlosses, genau wie in einem Film.
The following day there is only one program: wellness and relaxation. After a hearty breakfast of homemade desserts and delicious homemade jams, we dedicate ourselves to discovering the swimming pool and the Wellness area of the Rundegg, certainly one of its great strengths. In addition to the indoor pool, in fact, a vast SPA area (sauna, Turkish bath, Kneipp path and much more) and a wellness center are available to guests. It is here that we know Sonia who will pamper us throughout the day.
We started with a coffee scrub to finish with a body and face massage from which we came out as new (thank you very much to Sonia for your professionalism and friendliness!). The treatments we have tried are only a very small part of those offered by the Rundegg spa (among other things, we fell in love with the Philip Martin's Skin Care products used in the center).
Am nächsten Tag gibt es nur ein Programm: Wellness und Entspannung. Nach einem herzhaften Frühstück mit hausgemachten Desserts und köstlichen hausgemachten Marmeladen widmen wir uns der Entdeckung des Schwimmbades und des Wellnesscenter des Schlosses Rundegg, sicherlich einer seiner großen Stärken. Neben dem Innenpool stehen den Gästen ein großes SPA (Sauna, Türkisches Bad, Kneippweg und vieles mehr) und ein Wellnesscenter zur Verfügung. Hier kennen wir Sonia, die uns den ganzen Tag über verwöhnen wird. Wir begannen mit einem Kaffee-Peeling und endeten mit einer Körper- und Gesichtsmassage, aus der wir wie neu hervorgingen (vielen Dank an Sonia für Ihre Professionalität und Freundlichkeit!). Die Behandlungen, die wir ausprobiert haben, sind nur ein sehr kleiner Teil der Behandlungen, die das Rundegg Spa anbietet (unter anderem haben wir uns in die Hautpflegeprodukte von Philip Martin verliebt, die im Zentrum verwendet werden).
As if all this was not enough, to frame the castle there is a huge park, with a view of the surrounding mountains, where you can relax, perhaps in the company of some hens walking with their chicks. And if you want to escape from this oasis of relaxation and well-being (which is very unlikely), the center of Merano and the Trauttmansdorff Botanical Garden (the botanical garden of the world-famous Alpine arc) are only a few minutes away from the castle.
Als ob all dies nicht genug wäre, um das Schloss einzurahmen, gibt es einen riesigen Park mit Blick auf die umliegenden Berge, in dem Sie sich entspannen können, vielleicht in Begleitung einiger Hühner, die mit ihren Küken spazieren gehen. Und wenn Sie dieser Oase der Entspannung und des Wohlbefindens entfliehen möchten (was sehr unwahrscheinlich ist), sind das Zentrum von Meran und die Botanischen Gärten von Trauttmansdorff (der Botanische Garten des weltberühmten Alpenbogens) nur wenige Minuten vom Schloss entfernt.

Living an unforgettable experience in the heart of South Tyrol and to feel the protagonists of a film set in the past for a few days. This is exactly how we felt in the days spent at Castel Rundegg, thanks to the hospitality of David, Daniele and all the hotel staff. A dream structure where hospitality and elegance are the setting for an idyllic and magical place. Icing on the cake? Definitely the Gay Friendly touch that David and Daniele give to the castle. Impossible not to fall in love with all this.

Ein unvergessliches Erlebnis für einige Tage im Herzen Südtirols als die Protagonisten eines Films der Vergangenheit. Genau so haben wir uns in den Tagen im Castel Rundegg gefühlt, dank der Gastfreundschaft von David, Daniele und allen Hotelmitarbeitern. Eine Traumstruktur, in der Gastfreundschaft und Eleganz die Kulisse für einen idyllischen und magischen Ort bilden. Tüpfelchen auf dem I? Auf jeden Fall die Gay-Friendly Atmosphere, die David und Daniele dem Schloss geben. Es ist unmöglich, sich nicht in all das zu verlieben.
