After months of lockdown and various restrictions, we finally managed to cross the borders of our beloved Italy for a first trip to foreign territory. And to celebrate this event (for us it is a joy to be able to return to travel) we decided to go and explore the French region of Alsace and its beautiful villages.

As a "base camp" we could only choose the Hotel La Maison Mulhouse, in the town of Mulhouse, perfect for reaching the villages in the day and not far from both the German and Swiss borders (in fact, those who followed us on Instagram Stories since we also made some trips in these territories).

Après des mois de lockdown et diverses restrictions, nous avons finalement réussi à franchir les frontières de notre bien-aimée Italie pour un premier voyage en territoire étranger. Et pour fêter cet événement (pour nous c'est une joie de pouvoir retourner voyager) nous avons décidé d'aller découvrir la région française d'Alsace et ses beaux villages.

En tant que "camp de base" nous n'avons pu choisir que l'Hôtel La Maison Mulhouse, dans la ville de Mulhouse, parfait pour rejoindre les villages dans la journée et non loin des frontières allemande et suisse (en fait, ceux qui nous ont suivis sur Instagram Stories puisque nous avons fait quelques voyages dans ces territoires aussi).

The Hotel is located right in the pedestrian center of the city, a stone's throw (really super close) from the Saint-Étienne Cathedral on Place de la Réunion. As soon as the sliding doors of the entrance were opened we were struck by the decor of the hall ... a mix of originality and good taste that immediately envelops the customer. A really beautiful glance!

L'Hôtel est situé en plein centre piétonnier de la ville, à deux pas de la cathédrale Saint-Étienne sur la place de la Réunion. Dès l'ouverture des portes de l'entrée, nous avons été frappés par la décoration du hall... un mélange d'originalité et de bon goût qui enveloppe immédiatement le client. Un très beau coup d'œil!

Waiting for us is the very kind Yann who immediately accompanies us to discover the room that he and the staff of the Hotel have reserved for us. The sensations we experienced at the entrance come back to us as we walk the corridors of the hotel... everywhere there are very original paintings and furniture, nothing is left to chance and the effect is truly remarkable.

Le très gentil Yann nous attend qui nous accompagne aussitôt à découvrir la chambre que lui et le personnel de l'Hôtel nous ont réservée. Les sensations que nous avons ressenties à l'entrée reviennent au fur et à mesure que nous nous promenons dans les couloirs de l'hôtel... partout il y a des tableaux et des meubles très originaux, rien n'est laissé au hasard et l'effet est vraiment remarquable.

To describe the room, we really don't know where to start. Let's start with the fact that more than a room is a kind of apartment given its size. You enter from a living room with sofas, armchairs and vintage-style furniture, to go to the walk-in closet and the actual room. The walls are all covered with wonderful photographic wallpapers, a different one for each room.

Our room is not the only one to be so particular. All the rooms at the Hotel are decorated in this way, and all different from each other. We were lucky enough to visit some of them (thanks to Yann's kindness) and every room we saw amazed us for the furnishings and for some touch of originality that distinguishes it: from the ostriches that hold the light bulbs next to the bed, to the head of rhino hanging on the wall, vintage phones (wonderful). Not to mention the myriad of cushions with various dogs and animals that make the environment even more whimsical. In total the rooms are seventy, so there are seventy environments where the style is the same (and what a style!) but the atmosphere is different every time.

Pour décrire la pièce, on ne sait pas vraiment par où commencer. Commençons par le fait que plus qu'une pièce est une sorte d'appartement pour la grandeur. Vous entrez par un salon avec canapés, fauteuils et meubles de style vintage, pour accéder au dressing et à la pièce proprement dite. Les murs sont tous recouverts de magnifiques papiers peints photographiques, un différent pour chaque pièce. Notre chambre n'est pas la seule à être si particulière. Toutes les chambres de l'Hôtel sont ainsi décorées et toutes différentes les unes des autres. Nous avons eu la chance de visiter certains d'entre eux (grâce à la gentillesse de Yann) et chaque pièce que nous avons vue nous a étonnés pour le mobilier et pour une touche d'originalité qui le distingue: des autruches tenant les ampoules à côté du lit, à la tête de rhinocéros accroché au mur, téléphones vintage (merveilleux). Sans parler de la myriade d'oreillers avec divers chiens et animaux qui rendent l'environnement encore plus fantaisiste. Au total, les chambres sont soixante-dix, donc il y a soixante-dix environnements où le style est le même (et quel style!) mais l'ambiance est à chaque fois différente.

In the Covid-19 time, the Hotel found a very clever solution for us to overcome the ban on breakfast buffets. Each guest, in fact, is given a sheet every day asking their preferences for the next morning meal, complete with the desired time and a huge variety of products (we have eaten a lot of typical Pain au Chocolat and Madeleine ... wonderful). Ah, we almost forgot... you can even choose whether to have breakfast in the room used or receive it directly in the room: in this case, the staff girls will knock on the door at the set time and with great joy and sympathy they will wish you a good morning leaving you your breakfast.

Dans le temps du Covid-19, l'Hôtel a trouvé une solution très intelligente à notre avis pour surmonter l'interdiction des petits-déjeuners buffets. Chaque invité, en effet, reçoit chaque jour une feuille demandant ses préférences pour le prochain repas du matin, avec l'heure souhaitée et une grande variété de produits (nous avons mangé beaucoup de pain au chocolat et madeleines typiques... formidable). Ah, on a presque oublié... vous pouvez même choisir de prendre le petit déjeuner dans la chambre utilisée ou de le recevoir directement dans votre chambre: dans ce cas, les filles du personnel frapperont à la porte à l'heure fixée et avec beaucoup de joie et de sympathie elles vous souhaiteront une bonne matinée vous laissant votre petit déjeuner.

If visiting Mulhouse and the fairy-tale villages of Alsace takes you away a lot of energy, on your return to the hotel you can enjoy the fitness area complete with sauna and steam bath or sip a good drink on the terrace. The perfect place for a little relaxation and to end the day in the best possible way.

Si visiter Mulhouse et les villages de contes de fées d'Alsace vous emporte beaucoup d'énergie, à votre retour à l'hôtel, vous pourrez profiter de l'espace fitness avec sauna et hammam ou siroter un bon verre sur la terrasse. L'endroit idéal pour un peu de détente et pour terminer la journée de la meilleure façon.

Discovering this beautiful hotel in the heart of the town of Mulhouse was a really pleasant surprise. We have said it several times, but we never tire of repeating it: this hotel impresses with its original and beautiful style and obviously with the kindness of its staff.

It has always been a pleasure to come back after a day discovering Alsace and find a warm and enveloping atmosphere waiting for us, a bit like when you return to your home. An advice? Do like us, stay in this fantastic hotel, the ideal base for exploring the wonders of Alsace and beyond. And if you are a lover of interior design, this place is what you are looking for!

Découvrir ce bel hôtel au cœur de la ville de Mulhouse a été une très agréable surprise. Nous l'avons dit plusieurs fois, mais nous ne nous lassons jamais de le répéter: cet hôtel impressionne par son style original et magnifique et évidemment par la gentillesse de son personnel. Cela a toujours été un plaisir de revenir après une journée de découverte de l'Alsace et de retrouver une atmosphère chaleureuse et enveloppante qui nous attend, un peu comme retourner chez vous. Un conseil? Faites comme nous, séjournez dans ce fantastique hôtel, le point de départ idéal pour explorer les merveilles de l'Alsace et au-delà.
