TRAVEL TIPS for CAPPADOCIA in TÜRKIYE by the World Mappers

  • How to reach Cappadocia? The best way is definitely by plane from Istanbul. The reference airports are Nevşehir and Kayseri. The first is 40 km away, while the second is about 70 km away. Many more daily flights depart from Istanbul from Kayseri airport, so even if it is a little further away it is usually preferable, in order to find better times that allow you to optimize your time.

  • Do you want to experience a hot air balloon? Given the large influx of tourists, it is often difficult to find available places if you don't book well in advance (at least 2-3 months in advance). There are only 25 flight companies and for this reason, given that demand is high and supply is limited, prices are certainly not cheap. So hurry up!

  • Where to stay? The Cappadocia region is not very large and this makes it easier to choose accommodation. All the villages are located within a maximum radius of 15km and are the following: Göreme, Uçhisar, Ürgüp, Ortahisar, Avanos and Mustafapaşa.

  • What should you absolutely taste? Cappadocia boasts two signature dishes that you must try during your visit: Testi Kebab and Kuru Kaymak. Testi Kebab is a slow-cooked meat and vegetable dish prepared in a sealed clay pot, known for its tender meat and rich flavors.
