WHEN TO GO to USA
The United States of America are huge and the climate depends on the area you want to visit. Broadly speaking, the US territory can be divided into three macro "climatic areas":
The East Coast (that of NYC) characterized by a continental climate with very hot summers and cold and wet winters (except for Florida with subtropical climate).
The West Coast (that of LA) where summers are warm and winters milder with the exception of the northern area where temperatures are lower.
The Center of the country with temperatures that vary from one area to another according to the altitude.
This is just a crude view of the climatic diversity of the United States. Based on your needs, we advise you to inquire about the chosen destination. In general, the USA can be visited all year round. Fall and spring are perfect for the New York area while in Los Angeles you will always find a mild climate. If you want to visit the coasts of the south-east of the country, remember that these can be hit by hurricanes especially in autumn. The best time for hot desert areas, on the other hand, is between February and March while the summer season is perfect for all the Parks as well as if you want to go to the northernmost states where winter can be very harsh.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED for the USA
To enter the United States of America it is necessary to have an Electronic Passport with a residual validity of at least 6 months. In Italy this type of passport was introduced in 2006 and is recognizable thanks to the chip symbol at the bottom of the cover. According to the Visa Waiver Program, Italian citizens, and those of more than thirty countries, who intend to travel to the United States for a period not exceeding 90 days do not require a Visa but must obtain ESTA (Electronic System for Travel) authorization. Authorization), at least 72 hours prior to travel, by completing an online form and paying $ 14. We advise you to do it in advance to avoid unpleasant inconveniences. The ESTA is valid for 24 months from the date of approval.
For further information in this regard, we advise you to consult the website of Farnesina.
LOCAL CURRENCY in the USA
The currency of the United States of America is the US Dollar $. Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere but we advise you to withdraw or change some cash for any small need (or for tips, see below). We have not encountered any problems even with the use of VisaElectron prepaid cards. The only thing we recommend is to ask your bank about the possibility of using your ATM abroad. One of ours wasn't licensed and we only found out in New York!
LOCAL TIPS in the USA
Tips in America are mandatory. Or rather, tipping is not mandatory but it is a common practice and highly recommended above all due to the fact that it constitutes an integral part of the salary of the worker (waiters, taxi drivers, etc.). If you pay on paper on the receipt you will be asked to mark the amount of the tip and add it to the total of the bill. Generally it is advisable to never go below 15/20%.
