Historic Center & Ancient Village
It is the beating heart of Vieste, a set of labyrinthine alleys where you can go shopping, eat in a good local restaurant and admire the wonders of this town. Inside the historic center there is also the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, a beautiful Roman Catholic church in the Apulian Romanesque style with three naves.
Stairway of Love in Vieste
Now become one of the symbols of Vieste, this stairway near the historic center has been covered with romantic phrases to remember the legend of Cristalda and Pizzomunno. Pizzomunno
It is an imposing limestone monolith about 25 meters high. You will find it on Castello beach, south of the historic centre. Legend has it that once upon a time Vieste was simply a village made up of huts and inhabited by fishermen. One of these fishermen was precisely Pizzomunno, in love with a beautiful girl named Cristalda. Pizzomunno faced the sea every day with his boat while the sirens tried to seduce him with their songs. They offered him immortality several times if he agreed to become their king and lover, but Pizzomunno always refused. One night the jealous sirens decided to attack Cristalda and drag her into the sea with them. Pizzomunno chased his lover in vain. The following day some local fishermen found the young man petrified by pain, right in the white rock that still bears his name today. It is said that every hundred years Cristalda returns from the abyss to join her young lover and relive their love for one night only.
Lighthouse of Vieste
Built in 1867 on the cliff of Santa Eufemia, in addition to emitting three beams of light every 15 seconds, it is located in a strategic position for the navigation routes of the Adriatic Sea. It is also possible to climb the lighthouse and observe the wonderful city of Vieste.

During your stop in Vieste you cannot fail to reach by car the famous panoramic point of Torre and Arco di San Felice, which has become the symbol of the entire Gargano. The arch of San Felice is a natural structure formed by the accumulation of limestone that forms the cliffs of this coast. The best point to take a souvenir photo is on the side of the Tower of San Felice (click here to get there).
Explore one of the many magnificent Sea Caves, huge natural cavities scattered along the spectacular coast between Vieste and Mattinata. Created by the elements, today they are an attraction not to be missed. You can visit them through an organized boat tour or by renting a private boat.
If you have a few days at your disposal, take the opportunity to go to the Tremiti Islands, a pristine marine environment a few miles from the mainland. Here you will find a crystal clear sea waiting for you. They can be reached from Vieste with one of the many daily ferries departing from the port.

EAT in a TRABOCCO / TRABUCCO in VIESTE and GARGANO
You can't say you've been to the Gargano if you haven't eaten in a typical Trabucco, an old traditional fishing machine from the Adriatic coast between Abruzzo, Molise and Puglia. These machines were built on the seashore above the rocks, on sturdy wooden piles on which a platform rests. Today some of them have become spectacular restaurants (you always need to book to find a place!).
