Visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding at dawn. If there's a perfect time to observe giant pandas, it's early in the morning. In the early hours of the day (we've been told that Pandas go to sleep around 11 a.m.), the animals are much more active: they eat bamboo, play with each other, and move more lively. As the hours pass, however, they tend to rest for most of the day. Arriving at the opening will also allow you to avoid long lines and enjoy a much more relaxed experience.
Explore Chengdu even after sunset. When evening falls, Chengdu is completely transformed. Lanterns illuminate Jinli Ancient Street, Twin Towers light up with spectacular plays of light, and night markets fill with local scents and specialties.
